Gum Rosin also known as colophony or
rosin and has molecular formual C20H30O2.
It exists as a solid that is brittle at room temperature and has a faint
piny odour. It can exists in a variety of colours, from yellow to black, depending
on its location. It has a high melting and boiling point and is soluble in
organic solvent but insoluble in water.

Gum rosin is manufactured from the
crude pine resin collected from pine trees. The crude pine resin is first
subjected to distillation and gum rosin is left in the distillate. The
distillate is then filtered to produce a purified gum rosin.
